Nibong Tebal is located in Penang and situated in Seberang Perai Selatan. Being the area’s biggest town, it holds the main engineering campuses of the famed USM or Universiti Sains Malaysia and the Arumugam Pillai Industrial Training Institute as far as academia goes. Not bad for an area that used to be swamp land in its early days. Proving its forte in academic excellence in Engineering is that one of its former residents, the late Chin Fung Kee, was the designer for the bridge that revolutionised Penang travel, the Penang Bridge.
Way to get to and from the area is rather similar to most in the Seberang Perai vicinity. It is by the North South Expressway and then through the Jawi Interchange. Different from its neighbours, it is bordered not by areas in Penang but by those in the states of Kedah and Perak. They are Bandar Baharu and Pundit Buntar and they are both major towns in their states, thus adding nearby amenities to the ones already present in Suberang Perai. Cuisine offered is mainly Chinese, most popularly, Teochew.
