Tanjong Karang has its beginnings as a village of adjacent to Kuala Selangor at the mouth of the Selangor River. While the villagers at Tanjong Karang concentrated on more inland activities such as growing and harvesting rice, their neighbours on the other side of the nearby river bank at Kuala Selangor concentrated on fishing activities. Tanjong Karang has Federal Route 5 running through this town. This coastal route of 655 km stretches all the way to the north to Jelapang, Perak, and connects to Skudai, Johor in the south end. On the south east direction is Bukit Rotan and Bestari Jaya accessed by Federal Route 54, and if one drives further they would come across Assam Jawa and end up in Kepong near Kuala Lumpur . By accessing Rawang you can hop on to the major highway of AH2 North – South Expressway which runs to the north and to the southern ends of Malaysia. Sungai Buluh , and Port Klang are the nearest major towns nearby, an easy drive away thanks to the existing trunk roads.
