Alor Setar is the state capital of Kedah and is the second largest city n state after Sungai Petani. Since it is located along the main travel route from Malaysia to Thailand, it has become a major transportation hub in the northern Malay Peninsula. The name Alor Setar is derived from ’alor’ which means a small stream and ‘setar’ plum mango which is a tree that is related to mangos.
