Kampung Datuk Keramat is a village located in Kuala Lumpur within the Federal Territory and has an Oriental as well as an Indian past. The village which was once a site for mining tin was once known as Kampung Tangga Cina or village of the Chinese stairs. Kampung Datuk Keramat or more commonly referred to as Keramat old name tangga cina. It was named after a staircase made of stone which led to the resting place of Kapitan Cina Yap Ah Loy nearby Bukit Setiawangsa who was an important figure in the growth and development of Kuala Lumpur. Many of the homes here are made of wood and some residents still get around within the vicinity by bicycle or motorcycle.
There are many ways that residents and tourist with vehicles can use to get Kampung Datuk Keramat. It can be accessed by driving along into Jalan Gurney or Jalan Keramat Hujung. Keramat is served by three light rail transit stations as part of the Kelana Jaya Line. The three stations are Jelatek, Dato’ Keramat and Damai. There are also public transportation provided so that tourist and citizens can easily move about. For example the Dato Keramat LRT station. The elevated station is served by the Kelana Jaya Line and from here, there are Rapid KL buses that goes to Desa Pandan, Ampang Point, Leboh Ampang, Jalan Jelatek, Jalan Padang Tembak, Kompleks Pertama and many other places.
Kampung Datuk Keramat is a beautiful well developed area that has a lot to offer to its citizens and also tourists. Tourists can always go site seeing at Bukit Tabur, Aquaria KLCC, Petronas Twin Towers, Perdana Botanical Garden and also Batu Caves one of the most popular tourist attraction site especially during festival seasons. Most of the restaurants cuisines stays true to heritage with offering authentically Malay and Chinese food, especially as it has a specialized Nyonya restaurant named Restauran White House. Locals can enjoy recreational activities at the Taman Tasik Dato Keramat that placed nearby. Citizens and tourists can get their daily necessities from 7-eleven, Jaya Grocer and Family Mart located in The Intermark Mall. As for education parents can their children to nearby primary and secondary school outside the region such as SK Setiawangsa which known for top education school amongst primary school student and recognized as one of best primary school in KL. SK 2 Taman Keramat in Keramat AU1. There’s minority of teenagers there went to secondary school such as in SMK Taman Setiawangsa, SMK Taman Keramat, SMK Wangsa Maju Sesyen 5. As for primary schools in the area include Sekolah Kebangsaan Datuk Keramat, SK Jalan Gurney and SK Desa Tun Hussein Onn.
