Gopeng

Gopeng is a town situated in Kampar District, in the state of Perak, near Simpang Pulai and Kampar. The population in Gopeng is around 2,493 in 2010. Gopeng has its beginnings just as many villages in Perak have back in the 1800s when tin was discovered nearby within the village itself, in tandem with plantations of rubber trees due to the demand for more natural rubber sheets due to massive industrialization happening worldwide.

Gopeng lies practically next to the major North – South Expressway (AH2) which allows one to traverse easily via tolled highways to the northern states of Kedah, Penang, Terengganu, and into Thailand. The other direction, to the south, would be through the middle and southern states of Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Seremban, Melaka, Johor and finally at the border of Singapore. If one goes south down Federal Route 1, there’s towns like Jeram, Kampar, Mambang, Tapah, Langkap, Bidor, and finally Teluk Intan and Sungkai. Towns northwards of Federal Route 1 include Simpang Pulai, and a traveller will eventually arrive in Ipoh town. The nearest airport, Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, is merely 24 minutes’ drive away.

These delicacies can be found at the many restored pre-war style buildings from the previous centuries, such as the Gopeng Antique Kopitiam, Heritage Town Café, and Koo Fung Bistro. More culinary delights can be found in modern malls like the Mydin Wholesale Hypermarket RTC Perak, Tesco, AEON Midtown Falim Shopping Centre, and Pengkalan Emas Mall.

As children’s education is very essential, families staying in Gopeng will find many choices nearby for their children. The nearby preschools and kindergarten include the Budding House Preschool, and Pra Sekolah Al Ihsan. National schools include the SJK( C ) Man Ming, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Teja, National School Bakap, Fairview International School Ipoh, and Westlake International School. Universities include the Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Universiti Teknologi Mara Kampus Ipoh, Open University Malaysia, and Wawasan Open University.
