Sungai Besar is situated in the rice district of Sabak Bernam, Selangor. The district mainly consists of sleepy townships with lots of water around it and this area is no exception. In fact, the main trade is that of fishing along with working in plantations and rice field work. This is so because it is close to the districts coastline. The town’s main plantations of choice are coconut and palm. Although it is a town cum village at best, the area is home to some 20, 000 over residents.
This maybe the case because Sungai Besar has become the site for Sabak Bernam’s Centre of Administration, resulting in a lot of local government workers and officials living in the vicinity as well. This in turn, also provides many job opportunities for the residents. The road that runs through the town are the Jalan Sungai Panjang which leads to other connecting areas rather efficiently as it is a highway.
