To help the B40 (low-income) group acquire their own homes, Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin revealed that rental payment slips for People’s Housing Project (PPR) units may now be used as supporting documents when buying a house, reported Bernama.
She noted that this would be especially helpful for those with good rental payment record but without salary payment slips.
“I had a discussion with Bank Negara to think of ways to help those without salary slips such as petty traders or the self-employed,” said Zuraida.
“PPR tenants can obtain a good rental payment record for three years from the state government as proof that they have been making monthly payments…The banks can use this record as a condition to approve their housing loan.”
She made the announcement following the handing-over by her ministry of PPR Uda Utama to the state government of Johor.
The event was also attended by state Housing and Rural Development Committee chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad.
Zuraida hoped the PPR home tenants would use the transit units to train themselves be financially stable before purchasing a house.
The event also saw the minister hand out a rental offer certificates to 15 recipients including Noor Nadia Kamaludin, the widow of the fireman who drowned while on a search and rescue operation for the teenager who fell in a disused mining pool in Puchong, Selangor last October.
The RM77 million PPR Uda Utama project features 500 units of three bedders measuring 700 sq ft each.
