Phase 1 Of MRT2 Launch Postponed To Q2 2022

The operations of MRT Putrajaya Line’s (MRT2) Phase One has been moved from this month to the second quarter of next year (Q2 2022), due to minor setback during trial operations.

Notably, the trial operations has been carried out since April this year.

Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim, Chief Executive of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp), attributed the revised opening timeline to two system modules needing further refinement, reported Malay Mail.

He explained that it is vital that all of the systems’ primary, secondary and tertiary layers are stable before MRT Corp take possession of the assets from the turnkey contractors to start operations.

“Having gone through the data ourselves, we detected that out of hundreds of system modules being implemented, two modules require further refinement,” Mohd Zarif said as quoted by Malay Mail.

“As of now, I am not able to tell you the exact date because this is not something we can just plug in tomorrow because any software update will need to go through rigorous test regimes,” he added.

“Given that scenario, we’re looking at almost the second quarter of next year, I cannot tell you the exact date but it will take us beyond March.”

As part of its Final Detailed Inspection and System Performance Demonstration process, the trains have been simulating actual operations by operating in full-service mode every day even without passengers, said Mohd Zarif.

He revealed that the trains have registered more than 3,000 hours of trial operations as the systems are tested under various state of scenario and readiness.

Covering 17.5km from Kwasa Damansara to Kampung Batu, Phase One has 12 stations, three of which were moved from the Kajang MRT Line.
