PNB Merdeka Ventures, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), marked a major milestone in the construction of Merdeka 118, reaching its peak at level 118 – making it Malaysia’s tallest building.

Once completed in 2022, the tower will achieve its full height of at least 644 m and is set to be the tallest building within Southeast Asia, reported Bernama.

It will feature over three million sq ft of floor area, comprising 1.66 million sq ft of net lettable area of office space as well as a million sq ft of retail space.

Ahmad Zulqarnain Onn, President and Group Chief Executive of PNB, said that the tower is currently 81% completed.

“Despite experiencing a delay due to restrictions from the Movement Control Order implemented last year, we are pleased that we are able to top out within our revised timeline,” he said as quoted by Bernama.

PNB Merdeka Ventures shared that the tower has been fitted with various outstanding features, such as ‘The View at 118’ Observation Deck, set to be the highest in Southeast Asia. The tower will also boast the first and only Park Hyatt Hotel within Malaysia, which will occupy the top 17 floors.

Retail opportunities will also be offered via the 118 Mall that is surrounded by the ‘Merdeka Boulevard at 118’ park, which feature 1.61ha of greenery and open spaces. Meanwhile, three premium residential towers will encircle the office tower.

The Merdeka 118 precinct will also feature a textile museum that is focused on the Malay-world textile, Masjid Merdeka – a new mosque that could house up to 3,000 people and a purpose-built childcare centre for children below seven years old.
