Govt Sets Aside RM2.25 Billion As Housing Assistance For The Poor

The 12th Malaysia Plan will see the government setting aside RM2.25 billion for the provision of housing assistance to the poor.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the allocation will be used to build and repair 85,500 housing units – which comprise 75,000 homes in rural areas and nearly 10,500 homes in urban areas – under the Housing Assistance Programme from this year to 2025, reported Bernama.

During the tabling of the 12MP in Dewan Rakyat, Ismail Sabri explained that the allocation does not include “the construction of houses under state governments, corporate sector and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs)”.

He shared that the government will also build another 500,000 affordable housing units to provide more people from the M40 and B40 groups a chance to own a home.

The Prime Minister added that the government will also improve financing facilities such as the Youth Housing Scheme, Rent-to-Own (RTO) programme and the Fund for Affordable Homes to ease the burden of such groups when paying their instalment.
