Tanjong Karang has its beginnings as a village of adjacent to Kuala Selangor at the mouth of the Selangor River. While the villagers at Tanjong Karang concentrated on more inland activities such as growing and harvesting rice, their neighbours on the other side of the nearby river bank at
Kuala Selangor concentrated on fishing activities. Over the decades this area grew and so industrialization brought more commerce into this coastal area, while choosing to leave a large swatch of virgin forest greenery of the Selangor State Park untouched.
Tanjong Karang has Federal Route 5 running through this town. This coastal route of 655 km stretches all the way to the north to Jelapang, Perak, and connects to Skudai, Johor in the south end. On the way south on Federal Route 5 one would pass Jeram. On the south east direction is Bukit Rotan and Bestari Jaya accessed by Federal Route 54, and if one drives further they would come across Assam Jawa and end up in Kepong near Kuala Lumpur. By accessing Rawang you can hop on to the major highway of AH2 North – South Expressway which runs to the north and to the southern ends of Malaysia. Sungai Buluh, and Port Klang are the nearest major towns nearby, an easy drive away thanks to the existing trunk roads.
Tanjong Karang is indeed blessed with many natural resources and provide relaxation and space for families and friends to enjoy every day. For shopping malls there’s Aeon Mall Rawang, or further into Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya for famous malls like Suria KLCC, The Curve, 1 Utama, and The Gardens Mall.
For schooling needs of children at Tanjong Karang, there’s MRSM UA Sungai Besar, or for further education to Wesley Methodist School Bandar Seri Coalfields, Sri KDU Schools, British International School of Kuala Lumpur, and Garden International School. Other essential services include the Sabak Bernam Hospital.
The opportunity for business opportunities around Tanjong Karang are there for the investors and businessmen to carry through on their vision. Some see that the inevitable commercialization and capitalization of Kuala Selangor’s natural resources such as the fireflies and the beaches, which in turns leads to tourism. The current wave of tourism at Tanjong Karang and Kuala Selangor account for the mushrooming of small businesses such as homestays and restaurants.
