Jalan Ipoh is a busy road and major commercial and residential township in Kuala Lumpur. It is located at the city fringe and near to Sentul and Segambut and a short drive away to Kenny Hills and Sri Hartamas/Mont Kiara. Jalan Ipoh road is a long stretch of road from Kepong roundabout and ending at Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah (formerly Jalan Duta). Jalan Ipoh is a popular road and it is highly a highly concentrated residential and commercial hub. As such, Jalan Ipoh is always congested especially during peak hours.
Jalan Ipoh is steep in history. It got its name as the only road leading from the city towards Ipoh and is part of the Federal Route 1, the first and among the oldest federal roads in Malaysia. It is also the only truck road that enabled transport of tin supplies between Ipoh and Kuala Lumpur then.
Today, Jalan Ipoh is synonymous with many things especially so for the local folks. It is one of the major routes of the annual Thaipusam procession leading to Batu Caves. Aside from that, it is also known amongst the locals and tourist as the Chinese street food paradise. And it is also known for its cheap eats.
Since Jalan Ipoh is one of the major roads as well as commercial and residential area, it is not doubt that it is easily reachable via Duta Expressway, Jalan Kuching, Jalan Kepong, Jalan Sentul, Jalan Pahang, Jalan Raja Laut and through Jalan Sultan Ismail from the city centre. The other way to get around the area is by taxis and buses. There are several MRT stations planned in the area which is currently under construction.
As an established neighbourhood, Jalan Ipoh has a host of amenities and facilities such as schools, shops, entertainment, supermarkets and more, catering to the community’s needs. Jalan Ipoh is surrounded by plenty of schools, all of which are within short distances, such as SMK (Perempuan) Jalan Ipoh, SK Sri Dhandayuthapani Primary School, Mun Choong Chinese School,SMK Sentul Utama and Chong Hwa Independent High School.
There are many places around Jalan Ipoh to get daily essentials and groceries such as 99 Speedmart,Pasar Malam Jalan Ipoh, Pasar Batu 5 and Pasar Malam Taman Kok Doh. There are also several supermarkets around the area where one can find a wider choice of stock like Rasbo Mart,KRM Cash & Carry, Tesco Extra Selayang and Pasaraya TC Permata.Over at nearby Sri Hartamas/Mont Kiara enclave is Mercato, Ben’s Independent Grocer, Jaya Grocer and Village Grocer which stocks a wide range of imported products.
Jalan Ipoh is also surrounded by numerous medical clinics such as Lourdes Medical Centre and Reddy Clinic. It is also within close proximity to the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital, IJN, KPJ Tawakkal and Pusrawi Hospital.
Mutiara Complex and Rivercity are two of the neighbourhood shopping mall which mainly houses eateries, convenience stores, wellness stores and services. The nearest proper shopping mall is the Sunway Putra Mall and Publika Shopping Gallery in nearby neighbourhoods where you’d find a wide range of shops, cafes and many more.
Recreation are mainly confined to pockets of community parks within each housing estate around Jalan Ipoh. Besides that, there are a handful of karaoke, playgrounds, gym and yoga studios around the area. Other nearby recreational include Sentul Park and Metropolitan Batu Park and the newly refurbished Tasik Titiwangsa.
When it comes to food, Jalan Ipoh is unmatched in the choices available. Amongst the popular ones include dim sum, bak kut teh, chicken porridge, Indian style curry fish head, hokkien mee and claypot chicken rice. Along Jalan Ipoh you can pretty much find every single street food available from Chinese to Indian to Malay spread all over the area. Popular eateries here are Restaurant Million which serves authentic henghwa cuisine, Kedai Kopi dan Makanan Ming Hoe Hokkien Mee, Jalan Ipoh Fish Head Mihun,Sentul Curry House and Restoran Tai Sam Yun for delicious dim sum. There are also the Ipoh Road Yong Tow Foo that is not to be missed when around the area. Of course, there are more food options in nearby neighbourhoods to explore.
Jalan Ipoh is also an old neighbourhood therefore it is easy to find places of worship around the area such as Guan Yin Gu Miao Temple, Sri Thadayuthapani Temple,Sri Maha Kaliamman temple, Ipoh Road Chinese Methodist Church, Chettiyar Temple and Choo Sin Tang Temple. Due to it being one of the main routes to Batu Caves during Thaipusam, there are quite a number of Indian temples situated along here.
Additionally, as an established neighbourhood Jalan Ipoh has an active business community mainly in automobile services, repairs and parts. Nissan Motors Headquarters is also located along Jalan Ipoh. The Batu Cantonment Camp and the Sentul District Police Headquarters are also within vicinity.
Generally, Jalan Ipoh is a great place to live in if you don’t mind the massive traffic jam. It gives convenient access into city centre as well as major expressway to get to out of town and not to mention, convenient access to neighbouring townships.
Given that Jalan Ipoh is a short drive away from the city centre, it is fast becoming a residential area. Properties in Jalan Ipoh are freehold , this explains the hefy pricetag with a median price psf of RM 406 or median price of RM 500,000. Properties around the area on the higher side due to its close proximity to the city centre and the CBD areas.
