Inanam is an established township and suburb in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Inanam is approximately a 20 minutes drive from Kota Kinabalu. Inanam is one of the Kota Kinabalu’s industrial area, the other in nearby Kelombong . The majority of its inhabitants are Dusun and Chinese.
There are 2 ways to get to Inanam either by driving or by taking a bus. The Kota Kinabalu City North bus terminal which is part of the BRT Kota Kinabalu is in Inanam hence, making travel from the city centre into Inanam a breeze.
The main economic driver here is light industries and manufacturing, activities take place mainly near the town centre whilst further in the rural areas where tradition Dusun villages are, fruits orchards and smallholding rubber is forms part of Inanam’s economic activity. Aside from that, retail businesses mainly operated by the local Chinese is also the major contributor to the town’s economy. These industries offer many job and investment opportunities for the locals from Inanam and the surrounding areas.
Basically, there is nothing much in Inanam, and life is slow and peaceful hence it offers a quiet serene countryside lifestyle yet it is a short drive to Kota Kinabalu where many commutes to and fro daily.
Even though Inanam is a small town, it offers a range of amenities and facilities for the community such as schools, eateries, retail stores, mini-markets, and much more.
Parents with school-going children will be delighted to know that there are schools all over Inanam such as SJKC Yik Nam, SK Inanam II, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Inanam, and SK St Catherine. There is also a private school in this town known as Sekeloh Rendah Swasta Datuk Simon Fung. Furthermore, Kolej Islam Sains dan Teknologi, Neobayu Academy of Natural Medicine, and Institut Latihan MySkills are also available for those seeking higher educational opportunities.
As an established township medical facilities are easily available as there are clinics spread like Clinic Dr Davy Hong, Klinik Taipan Inanam, and not forgetting the community clinic all of which are located in the town centre. Unfortunately though, for medical emergencies, Jesselton Medical Centre and Hospital Wanita & Kanak-Kanak Sabah are the two nearest hospitals from Inanam. Otherwise, the community will have to travel to Kota Kinabalu for medical treatments at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, KPJ Sabah, Rafflesia Medical Centre, and Gleneagles Medical Centre.
As agriculture is one of the major economic activity for the state of Sabah, you’ll likely to find the freshest produce in its many markets like the Inanam Town Market for the freshest vegetables, Pasar Ikan Inanam for the freshest catch, Pasar Malam Inanam Point, Metro Town Night Market and the Tamu Market, a farmers’ market where you’d find jungle produce from the Dusun villages. However, for more comfortable groceries and essentials shopping experience you can always head to G-mart Inanam, Thaiseng Supermarket,Citizen Inanam,CKS Grocer, and Giant Kota Kinabalu where you can find a wider range of products. As for shopping, there is only one mall in Inanam known as Inanam Mall where you will find a host of retail brands, eateries, entertainment and services and a popular place to go during the weekends for the locals. Of course, other bigger shopping malls are available in Kota Kinabalu city.
Sabah is well-known internationally for its natural attractions. Inanam is also not short of natural attractions which are frequently visited by locals for recreational purposes like the Shallom Valley Park,Tontolob Green Valley, Teluk Likas Beach, Likas Bay, and Kelab Gaya Utama. In addition, for sports and fitness, there are Kenny’s Gym, Soul Fitness,Teluk Likas Jogging Track, Gaya Sports and Recreation Club, and MPower Fitness studio.
There are also a variety of food to choose from in and around Inanam. Seafood is very fresh and cheap here. Not to be missed is the Tuaran Mee, handmade egg noodles that are synonymous with Sabah. Available eateries include Gold Leaf Café,Tung Fong Seafood Restaurant, Tin Hiong Lau Restaurant, and Kedai Kopi Hua Li and many other eateries serving local delicacies as well as a host of other cuisines.
Meanwhile, places of worship popular with the locals include Emanuel Church Kota Kinabalu, Masjid Tun Ahmad Shah Kg Inanam Laut,Inanam SDA Church, and St Catherine’s Church Inanam.
Properties in Inanam are leasehold with a median price psf of RM 458 or a median price of RM 550,000 which is not exactly affordable. Taman Seri Pelangi which comprises of beautifully designed 3-storey terrace houses is worth considering for both investment and own-stay purposes.
