Sungai Ara

Sungai Ara is a small residential township located in Georgetown, Penang. It neighbors Bayan Lepas and borders Relau. Penang International Airport is a short drive away.

It was previously an agricultural area to which the original village still stands today. The area was converted into a residential township in following the development of the adjacent Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone in the 70s. The Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone next door is a high-tech manufacturing area which houses some of the world’s best hi-tech companies such as Toshiba, Motolora, Bosch and B. Braun to name but a few. As such, it offers abundant work and investment opportunities to the local community.

Sungai Ara can be reached via Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim and Jalan Tengah. The local bus line as well as taxis and e-hailing are alternative ways to get around.

The neighbourhood offers basic amenities such as shops, markets, schools and more for the community’s lifestyle need. There are several morning markets in the neighbourhood where the community can get fresh produces like the Sungai Ara Market and New Market Sungai Ara. There is also the Pasar Petang Pagar Buluh and Pasar Malam Sungai Ara where an array of items can be found. In addition, there are also mini-markets such as Leong Hin Mini Market, Super Vel Mini Market and Ekea Mini Market within close proximity. Supermarkets are mainly available in nearby townships.

Sungai Ara is served by several primary and secondary schools namely Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Ara, SJKC Chong Cheng and SMK Sungai Ara. Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Relau in nearby Relau neighbourhood is also another option.

Within the neighbourhood, there are also several recreational amenities available for the residents recreation purpose such as Kenari Park,Sungai Ara Waterfront, Sungai Ara 11 Playground and Taman Jajar Sungai Ara. Aside from that, there is also THJ Snooker Centre, Yoga Quest, Montana Dance and Art Centre and Bukit Jambul Lake, all of which are within a 5km radius.

Pearl Maternity Hospital and Hope Children Hospital are both within the neighbourhood whilst Pantai Hospital Penang which offers world-class facilities is a stone’s throw away.

Since Penang is well-known as a food haven, it is the same for Sungai Ara which houses plenty of eateries like Sungai Ara Food Court, Hua Hee Restaurant,Ara Café Sea Food and Fisherman’s Grill. More food choices are available in neighbouring townships.
