Sarawak

Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia. It is one of the two Malaysian states situated on the island of Borneo. Located on the northwest of this island, Sarawak borders Sabah to the northeast, Indonesia to the south and it surrounds the country of Brunei. The state’s capital is Kuching.

Known as ‘Land of the Hornbills’, Sarawak is famous for these beautiful birds and other wildlife. This state is home to the longest river in Malaysia, Rajang River. Major industries driving the state’s economy are agriculture, forestry and tourism. Some of the popular tourist attractions in this state are Gunung Mulu National Park and the Rainforest World Music Festival.

Many commercial and residential property developments are concentrated in major towns such as Kuching, Miri, Sibu and Bintulu. Commercial properties include shop-office lots, office blocks, retail space and industrial lots. Popular residential properties are terraced houses, semi-detached houses, bungalows, apartments and condominiums. There is also land for sale.

This state experiences the tropical climate throughout the year. Generally, most days are hot and humid with occasional rain. Temperatures can range from 27 to 34°C in the low-land areas but it is much cooler in the hills. The northeast monsoon season starts from November and will last until February. The heaviest rainfall is usually recorded in January.

The population of Sarawak consists of many ethnic groups. The major groups are Iban, Chinese, Malay, Bidayuh, Melanau and Orang Ulu. There are more than 40 sub-ethnic groups, each with their own dialects and traditions.
