Jelutong is a residential suburb in Georgetown, Penang. Jelutong is the home to the late Karpal Singh one of Malaysia’s most prominent lawyer and politician.
Jelutong is strategically located near to Georgetown and is easily accessible from the city centre by road. There are five bridges that connects Jelutong to the city centre . Alternatively, there are also plenty of buses, taxis and e-hailing which you can take get around Jelutong and its surrounding areas. In addition, cycling is another option to travel around the area as there are designated bicycle lane in the area to encourage cycling as an alternative mode of transportation.
As a residential suburb, there are a host of amenities and facilities within Jelutong like schools, entertainment, food, retail outlets and other services available, catering to the community’s lifestyle needs.
Within the area are several primary and secondary schools such as SJKC Jelutong, SMK Jelutong, SJK Ghee Moh and SK Jelutong Barat.Furthermore, reputed schools such as Penang Free School are also within easy reach. Within proximity are also several international schools such as Wesley Methodist International School along Karpal Singh Drive. In addition, the Penang Japanese School is also within vicinity. There are other international schools such as Fairview International Penang and Tenby Schools Penang are also a short distance away.
There are plenty of markets, supermarkets, mini-markets and convenience stores which the community could go to for daily essentials and groceries. Markets popular with the community include the Jelutong Street Market, Jelutong Public Market and Bukit Lanchang Market. Within close proximity are also several mini-markets such as Suan Hin Mini Wet Market, Soon Guan Hin Mini Market, Pasaraya Madina 24 Jam Mini Market and Swi Huat Mini Market. Supermarkets in the area include Sunshine Jelutong, Tesco Hypermarket Penang and Bandar Baru Jelutong Supermarket.
In addition, there are also several medical facilities within vicinity of Jelutong such as Lam Wah Ee Hospital,Optimax Eye Specialist Hospital and Pusat Perubatan Tropicana alongside many other clinics that caters to the medical needs of the community in the area.
Unfortunately, there are no shopping malls available within the neighbourhood itself, however, there are many shopping malls surrounding Jelutong like Penang Times Square and M Mall in Georgetown which is a short distance away.
There are many natural attraction within Jelutong where the community spend their free time at and the popular ones include recreational parks like the Japanese Garden, Raffel Park,Bukit Dumbar Park and Bukit Hijau Cangkat Tembaga Hiking Trail.
Since Penang is known as a food paradise, it is no doubt that there are plenty of eateries available in the Jelutong area offering a wide range of choices. Some popular eateries are Puspamalar Food Corner, Khun De Thai Restaurant,Restoran DEEN Nasi Kandar,The Garden Restaurant and Pos Burger Jelutong amongst others.
As far as religious obligations are concerned, there are many places of worship around the area such as Hean Chooi Temple, Majushri Vihara, Penang First Assembly of God, Trinity Methodist Church Penang and Tabernacle of Praise.
