Ampang Jaya is a large and established township in Selangor. It is not to be confused with the commonly known Jalan Ampang which is in Kuala Lumpur and affluent neighbourhood, to which Ampang Jaya or popularly known as just Ampang, is a total contrast. One of the landmark would be the Pekan Ampang, a small village full of history and is today, a foodie’s haven.
Ampang Jaya is easily reachable from the city centre via Jalan Ampang and Akleh and the MMR 2. It is also served by several LRT stations namely Ampang , Cempaka and Pandan Indah stations.
Since it is an established township, it has a good mix of amenities and facilities such as schools, retail, food, services and more for the community’s benefit.
Public schools around the vicinity include SJKT Ampang, Sekolah Kebangsaan Ampang, SJKC On Pong, SK 1 Kuala Ampang and SMK Bandar Baru Ampang while Stella Maris Primary School, a private school is located along the MRR2. Mutiara International Grammar School also finds its home in Ampang Jaya. Meanwhile, the reputed International School of Kuala Lumpur (ISKL) is located nearby.
The township is also served by numerous medical facilities such as Ampang Hospital, KPJ Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital along side many other private clinics and community clinics. Gleneagles Medical Centre which offers world-class medical services is also located nearby.
In addition, the area is also dotted with markets, supermarkets, mini-markets and convenience stores where the community goes for daily essentials and groceries such as Kuala Ampang Market, Pasar Besar Pekan Ampang, Ampang Jaya Muhibbah Building Complex and Pasar Ampang Indah. Further to that, there are also numerous Pasar Malams around the area in respective housing estates. For those looking for a more comfortable experience, there is the Giant Supermarket in Ampang Point, Pasaraya Hero, Segi Fresh Ampang, AEON Big Ampang and Tesco Extra Ampang, all of which are within a close 10km radius. Meanwhile, Ampang Point is a popular shopping for the community and it houses a shopping mall known as Ampang Point Shopping Centre and a commercial area outside that houses Habib Jewel one of Malaysia’s prominent jewellers has its headquarters here as well as numerous eateries and other retail shops. Other shopping malls around the area include Paragon Point Shopping Center, Spectrum Shopping Mall, Kompleks Galary Ampang, Axis Atrium Shopping Mall while Great East Mall, AEON Mall AU2 are also nearby.
It is good to note that Ampang Jaya had been called “Little Korea” as it has a highly populous Korean community therefore one can find an array of Korean restaurants and supermarkets in the area such as Hanwoori Restaurant, Bee Won Restaurant, Galaxy Korean Mart and Hanaro Mart to name but a few.
As for recreation, there is the Bukit Ampang, a lookout point once popular with the local community, however, due to financial constraint this place had been shut for a while now and its status remain unknown. The Ampang Jaya Municipal Public Park and Tasik Pandan Perdana Ampang are also popular recreational spots for the folks here. Other recreational activities available include Trek Basikal Tekas, ATV Rimba Kemensah, Kemensah Waterfalls, Zoo Negara and Ampang Jaya Basketball Court. Meanwhile Kelab Darul Ehsan is a popular recreational club for the affluent in the area.
When it comes to food, there are many options available in Ampang Jaya including The Ghan Restaurant which serves authentic Afghan food, Restoran Loke Yun Ampang serving traditional Hainanese chicken rice, Foong Foong Yong Tau Foo a popular joint for good servings of Yong Tau Foo, Nong & Jimmy Thai BBQ Restaurant and Taman Dagang Food Court.
Ampang Jaya consist of numerous neighbourhoods and there are many B40, migrant workers as well as refugees renting here. The highly affluent neighbourhood here is Taman Tun Abdul Razak (Taman TAR) where Kelab Darul Ehsan and award-winning Tamarind Springs Restaurant is located.
Properties in Ampang Jaya are leasehold with a median price of psf of RM 326 or median price of RM 670,000. There are many properties in the area to choose from for investment or own-stay purpose such as One Ampang Avenue, TAR Villas, Taman Nirwana, Siarah Oakleaf and Prima Villa.
