Pengerang is a mukim and a new municipality in the district of Kota Tinggi, southeast of Johor, Malaysia. It is also classified as an immigration post for small custom cum. It is separated by the Tebrau Straits from Pulau Tekong and from Changi Airport, Singapore. Pengerang has many natural resources, sea life and unique landforms. The Johor State Government has picked Pengerang for a catalyst project for rural transformation program. Johor’s Chief Minister Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the area has seen steady development over the last few years as investments poured in because of the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex. “When Pengerang was chosen as the location for an oil and gas hub it was not only to give a positive impact to the country but to also transform rural areas where the people will reap the rewards of development,” he said at a press conference after presenting 100 agriculture land grants at Taman Bayu Damai, Pengerang on 23 February 2015.
The main road is provided by Route 92, from Kota Tinggi to the main settlement of Sungai Rendit. Pengerang has two public ferry terminals at Tanjung Belungkor and Tanjung Pengelih. The port at Tanjung Belungkor hosts ferries to Changi Point, Singapore, as well as Sekupang on the island of Batam, Indonesia. The port at Tanjung Pengelih also hosts ferries to Changi Point, as well as Tanah Merah. There is also an exclusive port for customers to the Sebana Cove Resort travelling from Harbour Front and Tanah Merah.
Pengerang coastal batteries (a fort), located near Tanjung Pengelih, are a World War II heritage trail. The battery was built at Sungai Santi’s mouth, overlooking the Johor Straits and was abandoned after the war. The battery is said to be the largest defense fort outside the United Kingdom, situated at Tanjung Pengelih. It sits on a plot of land of 610 hectares, having once barracks and a hospital. Battery Pengerang is a fortified fortress situated in Johor. Overlooking the Straits of Johor, it is situated near a military camp in Malaysia, standing on the top of a jungle-covered little hill.
Pengerang is a very beautiful and well-developed place with plenty to offer both to its residents and to visitors. Since Pengerang is very modernized, the majority of facilities in this neighboring city can be enjoyed. There are shops located in this area making it easy for residents and tourists to do their daily shopping for groceries. Education wise, Pengerang is also pretty well equipped as there quite a number of schools you can choose from to send you kids to and the distance is not that far as well. All of them are National School Pengerang, Religious School Pengerang, Sekolah Kebangsaan Pengelih, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Pengelih, National School Lepau and Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Ramunia. In emergency situations, residents and visitors can still access any of the clinics in the region as well as several clinics are also given. Two of the clinics are the Pengerang Health Clinic, Poliklinik Desaru, Poliklinik Penawar, klinik Pengerang Gateway Healthcare, Poliklinik Medic Dr Ram and Sungai Rengit Health Clinic
