Tangkak

Tangkak is the principal town and capital of the Tangkak District in Johor. The town has a nickname, ‘Fabric Town’ in honour of the many textile shops located in the town. Tangkak is also well known for being a major entry point to Mount Ophir or better known by the locals, Gunung Ledang.

Tangkak is a town that can be easily accessed due to the road network running through the town. The PLUS Expressways and Jalan Muar – Tangkak – Segamat (Federal Route 23) are major roads and highways that connect Tangkak to its neighbouring towns and cities. Through these roads, Tangkak is connected to towns and cities such as Muar, Segamat and Jementah.

There are a number of things one can do while in Tangkak. Apart from being known for its textile industry, Tangkak is also a town that has a modern touch to it but still has its sentimental feel with history. A number of things that one can do in Tangkak are visiting the Tangkak Brown Rice Factory & Bird Nest Factory. The factory specializes in brown rice based products and other natural food such as natural honey, royal jelly, bird nest, brown rice snacks and many more other products. Other than that, one can also visit Piyaram Buddhist Temple, gorgeous, eye catching temple buildings carved to showcase the intricacy of Thai architecture. Many tourists and locals are attracted to this place because of how well done the temple buildings are. Of course, if you are in Tangkak, taking a trip to Mount Ophir is a must. Hiking up the mountain would be worth it as one can take in the full view of this beautiful, legendary mountain.

Tangkak is a small town that has much to offer in term of cuisine. One can enjoy local Johor dishes while in this town such as a bowl of the popular beef noodles, steamed beef, claypot beef, nasi ayam or roti canai terbang.  For those who enjoy cooking their own meal, there are grocery stores in the area that they can frequent to obtain their produce from.
