Cyberjaya - A Dynamic Location for Foreign and Local Tech SMEs

With a thriving and continuously evolving tech ecosystem, Cyberjaya plays a vital role in leading Malaysia’s digital transformation and provides an opportunity for existing markets to grow and compete effectively.

Since its unveiling in 1997, Cyberjaya has grown into a thriving tech ecosystem that not only provides world-class infrastructure for businesses and foreign investors but has also developed into an attractive location for a thriving local community.
The city continues to play a vital role in Malaysia’s efforts on digital transformation, attracting some of the world’s largest corporations to set up their operations in this city. So why should investors and MNCs consider Cyberjaya? Here are some key reasons why.

What are Some of the World-Class Infrastructures in Place?

Infrastructure around connectivity and affordable real estate are some of the key considerations for companies and investors nowadays, given how most businesses have global reach and escalating operations costs in this post-pandemic world. At Cyberjaya, you can find affordable office spaces with access to high-speed fibre optic internet, offered at globally competitive telecommunication tariffs.
Cyberjaya has come a long way in the last decade when it comes to assuring elements that improve the city’s liveability. The city now has seven institutes of higher learning, a hospital, nine banks, five shopping malls, and more than 300 F&B outlets. This shows how it has grown into a self-sustaining township that’s not only great for companies but offers a vibrant landscape for the community who call this city their home.©Cyberview | Cyberjaya Investment and Services Centre (CISC)

A unique attribute of the city is the Cyberjaya Investment and Services Centre (CISC), a one-stop centre that serves investors, businesses, and the community alike. Cyberview, the Tech Hub Developer of Cyberjaya, operates the centre to ease the process of doing business here, providing easy access to business services and location scouting, expatriate and talent services, as well as serving as a single touchpoint for information and community support.©Cyberview | The launch of Phase Two of the Putrajaya MRT Line is highly anticipated

Accessibility into Cyberjaya is excellent. Via the Maju Expressway, travellers from the KL City Centre will only take a quick 30-minute drive to reach Cyberjaya. The game changer would have to be the opening of Phase Two of the Putrajaya MRT Line in March 2023, which is the longest route in the MRT line. It covers a distance of 57.7 kilometres, with two stations serving Cyberjaya: The Cyberjaya Utara and Cyberjaya City Centre. Commuters can then take the Rapid Bus services to get to their destination.
“Did you know that Cyberjaya has set itself a target to be the 1st Smart Low Carbon City by reducing 40% of its carbon emissions by 2030 and having 40% green lung reserves?”

What are the Incentives Provided for Companies or Investors who are Interested?

Cyberjaya provides access to some excellent financial incentives to sweeten the deal for investors. Through a partnership with the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), eleven fiscal incentives are made available for businesses including tax savings. Some of the incentives include tax exemption of up to 100% for ten years, capital allowances, double deductions and funding, as well as competitive research and development (R&D). On top of this, companies can also enjoy exemptions from restrictions imposed by local regulatory bodies.

Access to Top Talents

Cyberjaya also provides a conducive environment to attract and nurture top young talents. Cyberview works closely with institutes of higher learning by building bridges between talent and companies here. To further offer value to companies residing in Cyberjaya, Cyberview signed an MoU with TalentCorp in early 2020, enabling the Structured Internship Programme (SIP) to be offered to companies here.
Eligible companies will benefit from a double tax deduction incentive from the programme. Companies also have access to promising available talent in Malaysia when sourcing internship candidates through Cyberview.

On top of that, there are seven higher education institutes within its borders, including reputable ones such as Multimedia University (MMU), Limkwokwing University, and University of Cyberjaya. This means there is easy access to over 26,000 high-skilled local and global talent from universities and colleges around the city – many with the right skill sets to meet the demands of the burgeoning tech industry.
Nurturing talent along the value chain includes funnelling and encouraging the city’s brilliant minds to partake in a flourishing startup environment. The city’s tech DNA and vibrancy make Cyberjaya an attractive place to work or to kickstart new businesses for top young talents.©Cyberview | The city’s tech DNA and vibrancy make Cyberjaya an attractive place to work

It is home to one of the most dynamic and largest concentrations of startups in Malaysia, priding itself on having nurtured more than 400 startups over the years.
All these are the result of a supportive tech ecosystem where multiple accelerator programmes such as the Cyberview Living Lab Accelerator (CLLA), access to human capital, access to funding and mentorship, and the provision of co-working spaces are present.
