Malaysia Consumer Sentiment Study H1 2024
The latest PropertyGuru Malaysia Consumer Sentiment Study H1 2024 polled 1,075 respondents across Malaysia via an online questionnaire between 6th November 2023 and 5th December 2023.
The respondents comprise a mix of white-collar professional workers, businessmen and more in the following income brackets: low-income (37%), middle-income (40%) and high-income (20%). The age groups of the respondents were divided into six categories: 22-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 years old & above.
The homeownership aspiration remains strong while Malaysian property seekers navigate economic uncertainties and rising interest rates.
Here are the key highlights of the study which we believe reflects current property seekers’ sentiments.
As affordability continues to be a challenge for Malaysians, renting emerges as the preferred option. Even then, the government needs to recognise that renters or individuals not considering purchasing a home face challenges in finding accommodations within their budget, and to come up with policy interventions to make the rental market more accessible and transparent for potential tenants.
