Klang, formerly known as Kelang, is a royal town and former capital of the state of Selangor Malaysia. It is located within the Klang District. It was the civil capital of Selangor in an earlier era prior to the emergence of Kuala Lumpur and the current capital, Shah Alam. As of 2010, the Klang City has a total population of 240,016 (10,445 in the city centre), while the population of Klang District is 842,146, and the population of all towns managed by Klang Municipal Council is 744,062.

There are many ways that residents and tourist with vehicles can use to get to Klang as there are 3 major highways linking to Klang. The North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) links the Bukit Raja toll plaza in Klang to the North-South Highway. Visitors from Shah Alam, Subang, Petaling Jaya and Kuala Lumpur can use the Federal Highway to reach Klang. Visitors can also use the Shah Alam Expressway (KESAS highway) to reach Klang South. Alternatively, Klang is also accessible via coastal roads from Banting and Sepang (south) or Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam (north). As for public transportation the Klang’s railway station is located at Jalan Stesen in the part of town south of the Klang River. KTM Komuter, Klang Valley’s commuter train network, connects Klang directly with Kuala Lumpur (50 minutes) and Port Klang (20 minutes). By bus, the former Klang bus and taxi terminal is located right in the heart of the town opposite the Mydin Shopping Complex, but it has since been moved to Klang Sentral, which is about 8 kilometers away from the town centre.

Klang is a beautiful well developed area that has a lot to offer to its residents and also tourists. Food is probably the only reason why anyone outside Klang would venture into this coastal city. Seafood cuisine is one of Klang’s most famous must-haves and some of the well-known places to have seafood is at Teluk Gong and Tanjung Harapan. The restaurants here are known for their crabs, prawns and a few other dishes. Besides Klang Parade is one of the major shopping complexes in Klang with Parkson Grand departmental store and Giant Hypermarket as its anchor tenants.

Klang is home to a number of local public schools following the national curriculum in both primary and secondary education. Popular private and international schools are also located within easy travelling distance of the area. Some of the schools are Klang High School, SMJK Kwang Hua, Klang, Anglo Chinese School, Klang which is the known as the oldest school in the state of Selangor and one of the oldest in Malaysia. In addition Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tengku Ampuan Rahim, Klang better known as STAR is a secondary school in Klang. It is named after the fromer Royal Consort of Selangor, Tengku Ampuan Rahimah.
