Petaling Jaya has grown from its days of being a suburban satellite town adjacent to
Kuala Lumpur, only acquiring its city status in June 2006. As Kuala Lumpur expanded rapidly into one of the major commercial cities in Malaysia, workers and families needed to be housed nearby to their workplace, which spill over from adjacent areas like Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Bukit Damansara, Bukit Tungku, Kuchai Lama, Sentul, Seputeh, Taman Desa, and thus Petaling Jaya was gazette as a planned nearby suburban township, with numerous gardens, occupying an area of 97.2 square kilometers. Thus “PJ” grew with many single storey, double storey, and plots of lands with commercial shop areas, green lung gardens and interlinking roads and highways, making it a haven for families and working class to live, work and play.
