Terengganu is situated in the north-eastern part of Peninsular Malaysia. This state is bordered by Kelantan to the northwest, Pahang to the southwest and the South China Sea to the east. Several islands including Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Kapas and Pulau Redang, are also part of the state. Kuala Terengganu, a coastal city, is the state’s capital and also royal capital.

The state has prospered from the discovery of oil and gas off its coast. The other two major industries contributing to the state’s wealth are fishing and tourism. Agriculture producing various fruits and vegetables remains important. In addition to the islands, other popular tourist destinations include Tasik Kenyir, Kuala Ibai lagoons, Batu Barok and Rantau Abang beaches.

Commercial properties in Terengganu are mostly concentrated in the town areas such as Kuala Terengganu, Kemaman and Marang. They include shop lots, retail space and office units. Popular commercial properties are semi-detached houses, terraced houses and bungalows.

Malays make up the largest portion of the population in Terengganu (more than 90%) followed by Chinese, Indians and other ethnic groups.
