Complete living in Petaling Jaya

• 2 mins read

A locale as thriving as Petaling Jaya has carved a name for itself as the go-to venue for a host of facilities and conveniences. It is the satellite city of Kuala Lumpur, and officially obtained city status on 20th June 2006.

Petaling Jaya is defined by its many commercial sections, each one distinctive from the other. The most established would be PJ Old Town which is still marked by wooden pre-war houses, and is renowned for its Chinese cuisine, Chinese-oriented sundry shops and Chinese Medical Halls.

PJ Old Town neighbours PJ New Town, which houses all the local banks such as Maybank, RHB, Public Bank, Bank Simpanan Nasional and CIMB. International banks in the area include Standard Charted Bank, HSBC and UOB.

PJ New Town also plays host to the government offices of Menara MBPJ, Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) and Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) which is almost next to the first A&W fast food chain of Malaysia.

Following these two sections, come one of the busiest business hubs in Petaling Jaya, SS2 which is also home to many local banks. This is not a big area, but it is certainly one of the busiest with an always occupied basketball court dominating its centre, surrounded by eateries galore of a variety of cuisines.

Located not too far away from SS2 is Section 13, one of the other busiest commercial hubs of Petaling Jaya which sets itself apart by being the one which hosts the most neighbourhood malls. There is the Digital Mall not unlike Lowyat Plaza, and then there is Jaya Shopping Centre which is the refurbished Jaya Supermarket – and opposite the road is Jaya 33.

Although an established city, there is still room for development in Petaling Jaya. Located in Section 13 is the upcoming PJ Midtown and mixed development of Frasers Square, while Centerstage is already completed. Located in Section 17 is another upcoming development by the name of Biji Living, and then there are also Boulevard 51 off the Federal Highway and The Hub SOVO Suites in SS2.

Petaling Jaya is a self sufficient city that has a full range of amenities to serve its many residents. Common in all the above mentioned neighbourhoods are wet markets, and located within walking distance of PJ New Town is also Amcorp Mall and its business centre.

Situated across the road from Amcorp Mall is Taman Jaya, the local park which serves as a recreational area. Just across the road from Amcorp Mall is also a large field where events are often held.

Sundays at PJ State also bring a whole different scene of car owners putting their cars up for sale in the Sunday Car Market. Without a need for a go-between, the cars here are usually more affordable, and the prices are still negotiable.

The Curve and 1 Utama Shopping Centre which range among some of the most popular shopping malls within Klang Valley are also situated in Petaling Jaya, with more shopping malls opening up such as The Starling in Damansara Uptown and the refurbished Atria.

Being the satellite town of Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya offers the convenience of city living and convenient accessibility. Properties in this neighbourhood hence often command top value.
