Living in Sri Hartamas

• 4 mins read

Sri Hartamas is an upmarket neighbourhood located just 15 minutes’ drive from the hustle and bustle of KL City Centre. The area has enjoyed broad appeal with expat communities, most notably the Japanese, living alongside a diverse local Malaysian and wider international population.

What was in the 1980s a fledgling and rapidly growing neighbourhood is today a vibrant place to call home, maintaining much of the charm of the quiet suburban life but with access to key amenities and leisure activities that make Sri Hartamas a popular location for homeowners.

Shopping and Entertainment

Hartamas Shopping Centre and nearby commercial area Desa Sri Hartamas are the focal points of life in the neighbourhood, offering a combined retail, food and entertainment complex over three storeys. The Sri Hartamas Shopping Centre can be found at Plaza Damas, an integrated business and lifestyle development for the area.

Alongside the usual array of big brand chains and franchise restaurants, Hartamas Shopping Centre also boasts a number of local boutiques, adding a more unique feel to its retail outlets. A large number of restaurants and food establishments can also be found in a dedicated area just outside the rear exit of the mall.

Publika

Publika Shopping Gallery offers a more focused upmarket shopping opportunity in the area, with a range of luxury and boutique offerings spread out throughout this creatively delivered retail space. The combination of quirky boutiques alongside trendy bistros and diners make this mall an appealing hangout for all ages. It’s also home to some small but unique art galleries, as well as a variety of spa and leisure outlets.

Those looking for a bit of entertainment beyond their shopping won’t be disappointed either, with a number of spas, salons, dance studios and other leisure facilities located above the shops at Sri Hartamas mall. Residents hoping to tee off a more upmarket look at leisure activities can also enjoy access to the outstanding courses of the nearby TPC Kuala Lumpur golf club.

Food and Nightlife

The Sri Hartamas food scene is strongly influenced by its local expat community, meaning the area is extremely well represented by a diverse array of international restaurants. Japanese and Italian food features particularly heavily, but residents can enjoy a culinary journey that covers everything from a beautifully cooked steak to contemporary Japanese cuisine.

Those looking for a convenient selection of food outlets in an accessible location can explore the 50+ restaurants located to the rear of Hartamas Shopping Centre, providing some great local food options just a short walk away from this popular location. While more recognised for its international restaurants, Sri Hartamas also offers some limited hawker stall opportunities for those looking to sample a more local take on the neighbourhood’s cuisine.

Despite its suburban appeal, Sri Hartamas also boasts some great bars and clubs to enjoy, shared between it and the nearby Mont Kiara neighbourhood. You can relax and enjoy a cocktail at a speakeasy bar, or pop into one of the local pubs or craft beer bar for a more laid-back beer.

Healthcare

Sri Hartamas is home to a number of healthcare clinics and wellness centres, located in and around the Sri Hartamas Shopping Centre and nearby Desa Sri Hartamas business area. A number of other clinics are also available in neighbouring Kiara Hills and Mont Kiara.

The nearby Pantai Hospital in Bangsar is a short drive from Sri Hartamas. It offers a 331-bed private hospital that can cater for more serious care needs, with specialty services in a wide range of medical areas and indications. ParkCity Medical Centre is just a short 10-15 minutes’ drive to the north, also offering private care across a 300-bed facility.

Nearby Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) provides public hospital care for the Kuala Lumpur region, with over 2,300 beds catering for a wide range of medical indications across 28 clinical departments. Sri Hartamas’ outstanding transport links mean that HKL can be reached in just 10-15 minutes by road.
