Bayan Lepas is a bustling city located in Penang. A rather strange name, translating loosely to the parakeet that flew away, this city certainly has, leaving its neighbouring towns lagging behind in comparison. It is most famous for housing the Penang International Airport and Penang’s largest mall, Queensbay. It also has the only Giant Hypermarket in Penang Island. The area serves not only its own residents but all of its neighbouring towns as well as it the most developed. The road most commonly used to and from the town is the expressway bearing its name.
It is also home to the Banyan Lepas Free Trade Zone or FTZ, therefore solidifying the area’s title of being an industrial hub as it creates jobs and keeps things vibrant in the city itself. Through all its upgrading, it has not lost sight of the past, with its War Museum, one of Bayan Lepas’ most famous tourist attractions. It also serves educationally with regards to local history. Its Snake Temple is also very popular among visitors and worshipper alike. Rapid Penang service is available in the area.
