I’m here because of the price and space. My unit is a no-frills 650 sq‑ft flat with 3 bedrooms—enough for a small family or sharing students like me. It’s walking distance to USM and local schools; buses to the city center are just outside, and living under RM250k or renting close to RM1k — that’s hard to beat in Penang.

Affordable, well-connected—but traffic can te
Renting here is budget-friendly—units go for around RM1,000/month for a 650–700 sq‑ft space, and that’s across a freehold high-rise. Getting to USM, Queensbay, or even the airport is a short drive-out, which is handy. But on weekday evenings, Paya Terubong Road turns into a parking lot—so definitely avoid rush hours if you can.

Very low-cost, but comes with all you'll need
I moved into Desa Indah Block 33 around two years ago, and honestly, it’s a no-frills kind of place—but it works. My 650 sq‑ft 3-bed, 2-bath unit cost less than RM250k, and the freehold tenure feels like a lifesaver in today’s market. There’s a basic playground, jogging path, community hall, and 24-hour security, which honestly covers most of what I need. Sure, it’s not glitzy, but given how close it is to Queensbay Mall, Tesco, USM, and all those schools, it’s real practical living.
