PropertyGuru Dream Home Campaign Inspires Underprivileged Children

Posted on 30 November 2015

Art is all about expression, and this was clearly portrayed by the 43 children who participated in the art jamming session held at The Studio @ KL, Bangsar South.

The children from the Agathian Shelter, Petaling Jaya and the Rainbow Home, Cheras participated in the activity for the very first time; a unique initiative by PropertyGuru Malaysia through the GuruCares community outreach program.

“We spend most of our lives and time building our careers. And it is vital to take a time-out once awhile to help people, especially the underprivileged ones.”

“As a father, it saddens me that there are kids who have to grow up without their parents. And having to help these children gives us a feel of accomplishment and satisfaction at the same time,” said PropertyGuru Group CEO & Co-Founder Steve Melhuish.

Aptly themed “My Dream Home”, the children aged between 3 to 16 years old displayed talents in sketching and drawing their dream homes.

Madu Mia, 6, painted her dream home with cheerful colours such as orange, red and green colour, while Devandran, 7, painted his dream home with a sky blue.

Buddha, a lanky 14-year-old lad, painted a two storey house on a steep incline, surrounded by lush greenery. His painting was one of the 20 selected for the art auction.

“I want a good home for my family in the future, and to do so, I want to be a teacher when I grow up,” said Buddha, who cited Maths and English as his favourite subjects.

“It’s great that we aspired the kids to prosper. In this case, to work towards acquiring their dream home. Everybody should be given a shot at life,” said PropertyGuru Malaysia country manager Sheldon Fernandez.

Out of the 43 art pieces that were crafted by the children during the art jamming session, 20 art pieces were shortlisted to be auctioned at the upcoming GuruCares Auction. Property developers and corporate clients will have a chance to purchase these art pieces.

The auction is scheduled to be held on Dec 14, 2015. The proceeds will be directed towards supporting The Agathian Shelter and Rainbow Home.

Apart from the art jamming session, the children were also hosted to a sumptuous breakfast and lunch, whilst interacting with the team from PropertyGuru Malaysia.

There was also a fun photography session, which saw the kids displaying their proud artwork while being photographed by the Glitz&Glam Studio Booth by Memory Kitchen's photographer.
