I am in process of buying a sub-sale unit and it is a leasehold
project was completed in 2016 but the unit is still under master title instead of individual title

can I still buy the property but what is the danger and the process involved? shouldn't the owner change to individual title before selling the unit?

Short answer: Yes, you can. Long answer: First, check if the developer is still around and not liquidated already. Second, if the developer is still around, the transfer of title will involve you as the Purchaser, your Bank, the Owner, the Owner's Bank and the Developer and of course the Solicitors.
