This is regarding a room rental for six months.
Unfortunately, due to unforseen issues at the new company I shifted to just after the tenancy, income per month took a significant drop. Despite this, I always ensure rent was paid within the month.
Until this month Sept, when delays at work caused delays in payments that were more than usual. I did inform the management company, they were not happy.
After much discussion they agreed this month's payment can be made in 2 halves 9/9 and 13/9.
Unfortunately, they also cut power to my room on Friday 6/9 which resulted in disruption to my work and created delay in preparing the first payment.
When I informed them, that the power disconnect had caused further delay and payment would only be ready on 11/9, they issued an ultimatum to make the payment by noon of 10/9.
As I was busy with work at the time, I only reply them later in the afternoon. They informed me it has been escalated to the next step which is tenancy termination and demanded:
2 months rental + $150 admin fees (to remove my name from CTOS).
Electricity is on a prepaid basis and I will likely not be able to get a refund for that.
While they claim this is their SOP, it does feel very weird. Is this practice legal in Malaysia?
