jb-1 (1)

Also known as Austin Heights, this residential neighbourhood in Johor Bahru can be thought of as Johor’s equivalent to Selangor’s Subang Jaya.

Hip and happening, Mount Austin is one of the most well-known spots in Johor and for good reason. The vibrant area boasts a trendy entertainment scene and F&B aplenty - Think cafes, and you’ll think of Mount Austin.

But it’s not just the trendy food scene that owes to the student population here. The area also caters to Johor Bahru’s Sunway College campus in the vicinity, plus the prestigious Austin Heights International School.

Youths and families settling down here have access to all the basic amenities in this self-sustaining township, from shopping malls (Jusco, Tesco, Carrefour and Giant) to medical (Sultan Ismail Hospital).

If you’d consider yourself more of an old soul, how about settling down in Johor’s Royal Town?

Muar is synonymous with many things, but you’ll most often hear food, coffee and historical sites being the three most common.

As Johor’s proud historical city, tourists flock here to visit the museums, galleries and many landmarks rich with history.

Kubu Bentayan for instance, was the last fortress that the last Malacca Sultanate, Sultan Mahmud Shah, retreated to before it fell during the 15th century when the Portuguese attacked.

Local delights such as otak-otak, prawn noodles and countless others also prove to be a major draw for foodies across the whole of Peninsular Malaysia.

As a whole, Muar is a mature neighbourhood that enjoys a quaint, laid back atmosphere.

Chong Long Gong temple is the oldest one in Batu Pahat, and draws visitors for its rather unusual activity of stroking arapaima fish for good fortune.

Not too upbeat nor too laid-back, families looking for a well-developed suburb to settle down in can consider Batu Pahat for a place to call home.

This landlocked town lies smack in the middle of Johor and is as much of a charming town as Muar. Kluang is believed to derive from “Keluang”, a native fruit bat which has since gone extinct.

Java aside, the area is dotted with organic farms galore - an echo to Kluang’s history as an agricultural economy.

While visitors enjoy Kluang as an outskirt getaway of sorts, don’t let its old-school charm fool you, as the town is well-established with sufficient facilities.

It’s even home to a clinical school by International Medical University (IMU), Malaysia's first and most established private medical and health sciences university.
