Alma is a suburb of Bukit Mertajam, Seberang Perai Tengah in Penang Malaysia. Alma is named after a village called Kampung Alma. This suburb is bordered by Jalan Kulim in the north, Jalan Kampung Baru in the northwest, KTM railway line on the west, Permatang Tinggi in the south, Machang Bubok to the east and Ceruk Tok Kun to north. In recent years, the area around Alma has seen tremendous growth, with several large residential estates being established in the area. To accommodate the growing population, several shopping malls were built in the area, including Tesco Bukit Mertajam and AEON Mall Bukit Mertajam.
It is very convenient to travel to and fro from Alma to Bukit Mertajam town as it is a mere minutes’ away drive. Rapid Penang route 709 and a free CAT bus also passes by the area. Alma is situated in a place which balances connectivity thus making it easy for residents to access an abundance of amenities, like malls, mini markets, restaurants, schools, clinics, places of worship and banks. It takes only 30 minutes to get to Penang where residents can access many tourist spots and other facilities, as well as enjoy the beautiful scenery. There are many beautiful parks in the vicinity where one could go to, either to do physical activities like cycling, jogging, walking or to just relax and catch up with family and friends. Cherok Tokun Nature Park, Upcycle Park, Taman Rekreasi Jalan Perpaduan, Taman Bukit Minyak and Bukit Mertajam Recreational Forest are some that are the closest.

There are various mini-markets and local restaurants that provide alternative options throughout the suburb that allow people to get their daily necessities and food with reasonable prices. Mini markets like SPP Mini Market, Saujana Jaya Mini Mart, Bayu Mutiara Mini Market, Tak Mini Market and Bandar Perda Mini Market are located nearby, as well as restaurants like Kopitan Classic Alma, Kim Hee Restaurant, Shunka Japanese Restaurant @ Alma, La Leche Caffe and Oldtown White Coffee Tesco Alma which offer a variety of international and local food. In case of medical emergencies, residents and tourists can go to clinics in the area, like Klinik Union, Klinik Caring Alma, Klinik Desa Alma, Pusat Cermin Mata Alma and Alma Physiotherapy & Rehab Centre.
Alma is home to a number of local public schools following the national curriculum in both primary and secondary education. Popular private and international schools are also located within easy travelling distance of the area, with Jit Sin Independent High School, Wing International, SMK Alma, SJK T Ladang Alma and SK Alma Jaya, to name a few located within roughly 20 minutes’ drive. St Anne’s church which is a popular cathedral in Penang, Maha Mariamman Devasthanam, Masjid Jamek Kampung Alma Bukit Mertajam Pulau Pinang, Kuan Yin Temple Bukit Mertajam and Gurdwara sahib are places of worship located nearby. Those who love partying can spend their nightlife at the clubs enjoying themselves. Among the clubs are Flo Bar & Club, Bulls Bar, PDC BM (Platinium Darts Café, BAZZ Karaoke Bukit Mertajam and H Club. For added convenience, there are banks and post ofiices located in the surrounding, namely Maybank, Hong Leong Bank Berhad, CIMB Bank Maju Utama Bukit Mertajam, Public Bank Bukit Mertajam, Bank Islam Bandar Baru Perda, Pos Mini Taman Kota Permai and Pos Mini Machang Bubok.
