Paloh, located in Johor, is in its Kluang district. The area is a reasonable distance away from Kluang city and of equal distance away from the area of Yong Peng. The town has quite a history, having been considered a “black area” as it was the site of communist activity during the Malayan Emergency of the 1950s. Now, it is known for far less sinister dealings as it specializes in agriculture, specifically the planting of rubber and palm trees. This therefore leads to, quite obviously, the business of latex and oil, of which neighbouring town Yong Peng deals with as well.
Other than its modest yet profitable trade, the area is also known for its Taoist temple, Paloh Ku Miao which simply translates to Old Paloh Chinese Temple. A very fitting title, as the temple dates back to the late 1800s, thus the temple doubles as a place of worship and a historical monument. Ways to get to the town include travelling through Jalan Paloh or state route 16 as it is called. It also quite surprisingly has KTM railway service and therefore links itself to major areas like its state’s capital Johor Bahru, the nation’s capital Kuala Lumpur and even the nation’s neighbour, Singapore.
