Getting Around Taman Tun Dr Ismail

There’s something for everyone in TTDI which means even on weekends, TTDI is never really dead. Unfortunately that means traffic jams around TTDI is a common occurrence and you’ll have to factor that in when heading there.

Let’s be frank: it isn’t the easiest place to get to if you’re the type who relies on public transport. Yet now that ridesharing exists it is easy to just call yourself a car and visit a neighbourhood that is much loved for good reason.

What do you do then if you plan to get there in anything other than a rideshare or taxi? Here’s a list of your options to head over to TTDI.

Driving there

Malaysians, in general, love their cars and will drive even to the corner store that would be only 10 minutes on foot. Driving to TTDI comes with its own special share of inconveniences: the narrow streets means parking is extremely limited so really, if you can, consider carpooling if you’re visiting in a group.

Family car

The local municipal council is also very diligent so think twice about parking illegally and residents won’t take kindly to visitors parking outside their houses, especially if you happen to block their gate in the process.

Still convinced you need to drive there? Don’t bother being over-adventurous, get on a highway and you’ll be there in TTDI soon enough.

If you’re heading to TTDI from the city, the best bet is to get on the Sprint Highway. Look out for signs pointing you towards the Damansara Link and you should be good. Make sure your Touch N Go card has enough credit to get you through the toll gate on Section 17 and you should be good to go.

Driving to TTDI from Petaling Jaya instead? The Damansara–Puchong Expressway (LDP) is your best friend. Whatever highway you choose, make sure to take into consideration rush hour, weather conditions and the general average Malaysian driver.

Once you arrive at TTDI itself, navigating the roads won’t be too hard as despite being a fairly large residential area, the commercial lots are easy to spot and access from the main roads.

Brave? Try the bus

TTDI being TTDI, there aren’t a lot of buses that will head there. You will need to rely on the RapidKL bus 800 that operates from 6am in the morning to 11pm at night.

The 800’s route runs from KL Sentral to 1 Utama bus hub. To view a full list of routes, you can check it out at Rapid KL’s website here

Where exactly does it stop? It’ll make rounds to the following identifiable TTDI locations: TTDI market, the Porto Romano restaurant, house No 190 on Persiaran Zaaba, SMK Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Datuk Sulaiman Commercial Centre, Medan Athinahapan, Kiara Park Condominium, Villa Flora Condominium, CIMB TTDI and Public Bank TTDI.

The good news is that it covers the major spots at TTDI, while the bad news is that as there’s only one service for the area you’re at the mercy of the service’s punctuality.
Still it’s not a bad idea if you’re short on money but long on time and for sure, it’s less stressful than driving there.

Taking the train

In a perfect world, there would be a train station right smack in the middle of TTDI’s commercial area and getting there would be the easiest thing in the world.
Sadly that is not the case so you only have one option here which is the MRT service which doesn’t actually get you directly inside the commercial area of TTDI which is where most visitors want to head to.

Malaysia LRT train

If you happen to stay or work in an area serviced by either the Star or Putra LRT lines, tough luck. Neither service heads to TTDI so instead, you will need to make an interchange to the MRT service instead and head to your next-best option. There are also interchange stations available from the Komuter as well as from KLIA Transit/KLIA Express lines.

The interchange stations are as follows:

  • Bukit Bintang Station: KL Monorail
  • Kajang Station: KTM Komuter
  • Maluri Station: RapidKL LRT (Ampang Line)
  • Merdeka Station: RapidKL LRT (Ampang Line)
  • Muzium Station: RapidKL LRT (Kelana Jaya Line), KLIA Express, KLIA Transit, KTM Intercity and
  • KTM Komuter
  • Pasar Seni Station: RapidKL LRT (Kelana Jaya Line)

Once you get on the MRT, you can stop at the TTDI station and grab a feeder bus.
Make sure you grab the T814 bus at Entrance B, on the East side of Jalan Damansara, which heads into TTDI.

Your other alternative if you’re in Petaling Jaya is to take an MRT to the Bandar Utama stop and take the 800 bus from there.

Now you’re all sorted, have fun exploring all that TTDI has to offer!
