Bandar Utama is an affluent residential township in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia. It is located neighbored with Kampung Sungai Kayu Ara, Sunway Damansara, Damansara Jaya and Damansara Utama.
Just 28 years ago, originally Bandar Utama was a palm oil estate with less than 100 people staying there. The development is started by a company named See Hoy Chan Holdings Sdn. Bhd. in early 1990s. In 1996, the opening of Sri Pentas, TV3’s broadcast center and 1 Utama Shopping Centre have increased the population in Bandar Utama. After that, there are few new schools are opening such as Kolej Bandar Utama which is a tertiary institution. Hence, the Bandar Utama is continued to grow.
Bandar Utama is having about 1000 acres size which is equivalent to 4km2. It is divided into 12 sections ranging from BU1 to BU12. These sections are served by roads, e.g. Jalan BU1/6 where “Jalan” is a Malay word meaning road, BU1 is the section and 6 is the road number. The easy way to searching the house number is houses on one side of the road have even numbers, and the other side will be odd numbers. Thus, it means one side of a road will consist of houses with numbers 2, 4, 6, 8 and so on, while the opposite will have houses numbered 1, 3, 5, 7 and so on.
Basically, there are two parts of Bandar Utama, from sections BU1 until BU10 and BU11 with BU12. There is a bridge over the Sprint Expressway to join them as a town.
To reach Bandar Utama, you may use the northbound route of New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE). Right after the toll plaza, the 1 Tech Park (formerly is known as Sony building) will on your left. Then continue straight to all way down until you see an intersection on your left hand side which leading to Damansara Jaya. And the make a U-turn here and continue. Just before you see the toll booth again, go up the ramp on your left. At the traffic light you can have option to turn right to head to the BU1 until BU10 or turn left to go to BU11/BU12. Another way is if coming from the Damansara–Puchong Expressway (LDP), you must search for Taman Tun Dr Ismail on your left. When you see the intersection leading to it on your left, turn right instead towards the 1 Utama shopping centre, and Bandar Utama Damansara. If coming from the opposite direction, look out for the pink facade of 1 Utama on your left and turn left at the appropriate intersection.
The Sungai Buloh – Kajang Line will have 31 stations, one of which will be at Bandar Utama. This will bring convenient to everyone by using the public transport to everywhere in or out Bandar Utama.
There are few shopping centers in Bandar Utama, such as 1 Utama Shopping Center (1 Utama) and Centrepoint Bandar Utama. As previously 1 Utama ranked as 4th largest in the world, it spans 5 million square feet and has over 700 outlets. It is the only mall in Malaysia with four department stores and have 2 cinema complex which is TGV and GSC. Ideally everyone can spend their whole day in 1 Utama and have fun in it, no matter is from great food, shopping, or the entertainment choices such as bowling alley, arcade center, indoor rainforest and more. Centrepoint Bandar Utama is a much smaller commercial complex compared to 1 Utama. It is located in the heart of the neighborhood and is much more cosy than 1 Utama. Office workers and students like to have their lunch breaks in here. And it is also right next to a McDonald’s drive-through franchise.
Residents living in Bandar Utama can easily get their groceries shopping in AEON, Cold Storage and Pasaraya Segar Ikhwan. Besides, a Tesco outlet, the Ikano Power Centre, the Curve mall and the largest IKEA outlet in Southeast Asia were opened in the adjacent township of Mutiara Damansara. This has provided even more choices to the residents of Bandar Utama to satisfy their desire of shopping and daily need.
In Bandar Utama, there are 2 national primary school such as SJK(C) Puay Chai 2 and SK Bandar Utama Damansara 4. Also, there are few secondary schools in Bandar Utama. For example, SMK Bandar Utama, SMK Bandar Utama Damansara 2, SMK Bandar Utama Damansara 3 and SMK Bandar Utama Damansara 4. There is also First City University College formerly known as KBU International College (KBU), a private tertiary institution which founded in 1990. This university college is offering various courses in the field of business, engineering, computing, IT, design, hospitality, and foundation studies. This university college is renowned for their affordable quality education.
There is another choice for students to study in The British International School of Kuala Lumpur. This school follows the British educational curriculum in Malaysia. That is a different style of education.
The Club Bukit Utama Golf Resort is membership-based golf and recreation club. This club has a 9-Hole golf course with night golfing facilities. This club is not only offer golf course, it has event facilities for seminars and conferences. Besides, this resort has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts, badminton courts, steam room and gymnasium. Moreover, it has a popular Chinese Cuisine Restaurant which named Extra Super Tanker. The Club is popular among residents not only from Bandar Utama Damansara but residential areas surrounding Bandar Utama Damansara.
