Here is a town where its name speaks for itself. Pekan Nanas, translating to Pineapple Town is located in Johor and situated in its Pontian district. Why it is named as such is because it was very simply, the largest pineapple plantation and thus producer of the fruit in the whole of Malaysia. But now, it doesn’t hold that distinguished ranking anymore but still does have plantations and even a factory that cans the fruit for consumers.
Another title it held was being the only link between the central area of its district and the city of Johor Bahru. Presently, it proves rather modest with just 10,000 people living within its confines. This is considered quite a small number when taking the urbanization of JB and Malaysia all around into account. The area is also predominantly made up of Chinese people, therefore directly influencing its cuisine. One of its main features though is that it houses its very own Immigration Depot.
