The history of Ijok dates back to the 1900s where the township was initially founded by Javanese from Indonesia. It is due to this fact that the Malay population in Ijok is mostly Javanese. During the British colonization era, many villagers from other places were forced to live together in the settlement such as Ijok.

In the 1980s, the Chinese started entering the town establishing businesses such as rubber estates and cocoa bean plantations. It eventually shifted into palm oil plantation due to its high demand. As time goes by, more and more modern businesses are established in the township such as restaurants, grocery stores and mechanic shops.

Today, Ijok is very different from what it is 30 years ago. Despite it being a small township compared to big cities, a considerable number of properties such as shop lots and double-storey terrace houses are being built to cater to residents’ needs.

Located at approximately 60km away from Kuala Lumpur City Centre, the township is perched alongside Federal Route 54. It is reachable by travelling through its main highway, the LATAR, Kuala Lumpur–Kuala Selangor Expressway. The journey will take approximately 1 hour.

Despite it being a small town, it maintains its charm. On weekends, many tourists will come to Ijok for a break as it a stopover place for those travelling to Kuala Selangor and Teluk Intan. Particularly, many are interested in trying its infamous Beggar Chicken which takes more than 7 hours to prepare.

Tourists love travelling to this town due to its simplicity and less hectic living. After a long week of work in the city, it is certainly relaxing to be unwinding in such a township.

There are several primary and secondary school in Ijok catering to local residents’ educational needs. Religious schools such as Sekolah Rendah Agama Ijok and Sekolah Rendah Agama Bukit Badong are established mainly for Islamic students. Other non-religious schools present in the township are such as Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Ijok and Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Ijok.

Ijok New Village’s town center is the most happening place in the township. Over the years, a number of shop lots and businesses have been established, providing the town with a breath of life.
