Located about 60 km away from Petaling Jaya, Ijok is a fairly small township belonging to Kuala Selangor. Located along Federal Route 54, Ijok is a favourite stopover for those travelling to Kuala Selangor and Teluk Intan.

The evident low cost of living and simplicity compared to metropolitan life attracts many tourists who want a taste of simple less hectic living. Many people flock to the township for their infamous Beggar Chicken, which is a Chinese delicacy that requires 7 hours to prepare.

The main connecting route from Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya to Ijok is the Kuala Lumpur–Kuala Selangor Expressway, otherwise known as LATAR. The population of Ijok is made up of approximately 52% ethnic Malay, 28% Indian and 21% Chinese.

The main attraction in Ijok is Ijok New Village’s town centre. In recent years, new shop lots and residential projects such as double-storey terrace houses have been mushrooming in the township. Many local businesses such as restaurants, hardware and mechanic shops have been steadily established over the years.

In terms of education, there are a number of religious and Chinese schools in Ijok such as Sekolah Rendah Agama Ijok, Sekolah Rendah Agama Bukit Badong, Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (C) Ijok and Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Ijok.

In the early days, Ijok used to have many rubber estates and cocoa bean plantations. In the early 80s however, palm oil plantation surfaced due to its ease of planting and high demand. Today, we are still seeing many of such plantations surrounding Ijok. The older generation still works in these plantations.

Apart from that, the transportation sector is also one of the famous businesses to be found in Ijok. In terms of transportation, it is easy to get around Ijok due to the small size of the township and places are all connected. Most residents have their own cars or motorcycles, which is a must for everyday travel.

There are also local buses to choose from. There is the main bus station catering to those who want to travel outside Ijok such as to Kuala Lumpur or for those who come from Kuala Lumpur to visit.
