Hello,
I have previously advised a foreigner and his Malaysian wife and another retired foreigner both from UK on purchasing condominiums in Kuala Lumpur and MM2H visa. If the property is to be purchased and registered under a foreigner (even if it is in joint names with a Malaysian), the property generally have to be priced above RM1 million (eg. in Kuala Lumpur). Some states (eg. Selangor) do not allow foreigners to own an individual titled house with land except if the house is stratified in a privately gated and guarded development with shared facilities. The purchase will also have to be totally self funded as the banks do not lend to retirees. If you register the purchase under the Malaysian partner's name alone then the foreigner ownership guidelines above does not apply.
