My question is i am a malaysian and own a malaysian property for 10 years. After I change citizenship to singaporean, do I still considered owning the same property for 10 yrs or it will start again from when I change citizenship? I am referring to RPGT calculation if I am to pay 30% or 0% tax on gain,

Hi, I am Ryan from PropNex Malaysia. I want to assist you with your enquires.

After obtaining your Singapore citizenship you will fall under the foreigner category for RPGT, since the said property was purchased 10 years ago, you will only need to pay 10% for RPGT.

RPGT will follow the date the property was purchased, thus changing citizenship will not affect this, the only change is the category you will fall under from Malaysian to Foreigner.

Do take a look here:

Part III Schedule 5 RPGT Act
Disposer who is not a citizen and not a permanent resident, or an executor of the estate of a deceased person who is not a citizen and not a permanent resident, or a company not incorporated in Malaysia.
