Dear all HomeGurus,

I am dealing with an estate agent in Taiping.

I want to buy a property in Taiping and I was asked to pay the agent 2% commission. Should the buyer pay the estate agent so much commission?

The Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents, Malaysia allow real estate agents to charge up to 3% agency commission. Estate Agents are not allowed to charge both Sellers and Buyers. If the Seller appoint the agent to sell the property then Seller pays the agency commission. If the Buyer appoints the agent to find a particular property then the Buyer pays the agency commission.

    Dear David,

    Thank you for your reply.

I was introduced by the agent about this property and then I offer a lower price to buy. Is that making them allowed to cahrge me commission?

    Thank you
