For Penang, if we rent a condo unit, do we have to pay commission to housing agent? Is the 1 month commission shared between landlord and tenant?

The agency is only allowed to collect the agency fee from one party ( not both Landlord and Tenant) to avoid conflict of interest. Tenant may engage their own agent to find them a suitable property to rent at their rental terms and pay for the services.
