Foreigners are allowed to purchase residential properties in Malaysia. Different states in Malaysia have slightly different rules for foreigners to buy properties eg. in Kuala Lumpur the threshold to buy properties by foreigners is above RM1 million, and with the recent budget announcement above RM600k only for completed new projects that were unsold. For Selangor, foreigners are not allowed to buy houses on land and only strata titled properties above RM2 million in general. In Johor there is a levy imposed and certain qualified projects below RM500k.
