Pasir Mas

Pasir Mas is one of the 10  districts located in the Northern part of Kelantan, bordering Tumpat on the North, Tanah Merah on the South, Kelantan River and Kota Bahru on the East and Thailand’s Golok district to the West. Due to its proximity to Thailand, it is not surprising to find Thai influence in its culture, lifestyle, language as well as businesses.

According to local myth, Pasir Mas was a settlement founded by Che Leh Tok Pendekar, an Islamic religious teacher.

Pasir Mas can be easily reached through various modes of transportation such as rail, land, and air, making travelling a breeze. For travellers travelling by air, daily flights are available to Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in neighbouring Kota Bahru and then you will need to take the taxis or buses to get to Pasir Mas. Further to that, those who opt to travel by railway can opt for the Kuala Lumpur – Tumpat route. Meanwhile, for those from Kuala Lumpur, Pasir Mas can be reached by road via Gua Musang and Kota Bahru while those from the northern states of Kedah, Penang, Perak, and Perlis can get to Pasir Mas via the West Coast expressway. From Kuala Terengganu and Kuantan, Pasir Mas can be reached via Kuala Terengganu Road while those from Thailand can use Rantau Panjang Expressway. Other alternatives include express buses and taxis.

The district’s main economic driver is cottage industries that produce batik, snacks, and souvenirs. The industry creates plenty of job opportunities for its local folks. Besides, Pasir Mas is known as a producer of tobacco in the country. Pasir Mas offers abundant investment opportunities in tourism, manufacturing, and infrastructure. One of its main industrial areas is the Pasir Mas Halal Park.

As far as living in Pasir Mas is concerned, it offers a laid-back lifestyle. There is not much progress here but there are basic amenities such as educational institutions, supermarkets, clinics and places of worship available here. Amongst the schools nearby are SMK Pasir Mas, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Ibrahim, SMK Sri Kiabang and SK Sultan Ibrahim.

Daily essentials can be bought at the numerous mini-markets, supermarkets and convenient stores like Pantai Timor Mart, Pasaraya Pantai Timor Pasir Mas, Jusudin Mini Market, and Kedai Runcit Kak Nor Jaya whilst fresh produce are available at Pasar Besar Bandar Tasek Raja. Unfortunately, there are not many shopping opportunities available here neither are there shopping malls, the nearest ones are a short drive away in Kota Bahru.

Those who are in favour of outdoor activities would be delighted that Pasir Mas district is surrounded by abundant greeneries thus, offering ample opportunity for outdoor recreational activities at places such as Taman Rekreasi Tengku Anis, Dataran Air Muleh,Taman Sri Permata and Tok Sangkul. Likewise, those who prefer indoor activities can partake in some indoor activities at Muscle Gym & Fitness Academy, Dewan Badminton Abah and Pacific Bowl, KB Mall in nearby Kota Bahru.

Food in Pasir Mas is relatively affordable and plenty of choices from local street food to restaurants such as Nasi Kerabu Daging Panggang,Nasi Umi Stall, Khayla Restaurant and Restoran Thai Kelantan.

Generally, properties in Pasir Mas are freehold and are affordable with a median price of RM 340,000 for a bungalow house or media price of RM 51 per square feet. Nearby development includes Residensi Lubok Jong whilst Residensi Tok Bali is a newly launched project located at neighbouring town.
