Taman Bandaraya

Taman Bandaraya is part of Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. It is also known as Bukit Bandaraya. Taman Bandaraya first started in the 1950s as a result of the need for big companies such as the Malayan Railway and the National Electricity Board to house their staff in Bangsar due to its strategic location near to their place of work. Over the decades, Bangsar has become a very established high class area for housing, shopping, offices and at night it turns comes alive as a happening place for locals and expatriates alike.

Taman Bandaraya boasts of being in a very strategic location between Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya and it sits amidst a very good road and train infrastructure. Taman Bandaraya is surrounded by two major roads around its perimeter. On the south side is Jalan Ara, which starts at Jalan Maarof and continues to encircle the immediate neighboring enclave called Bangsar Baru. Jalan Maarof forms the main road that passes through Bangsar, leading through Pusat Bandar Damansara where the Pusat Bandar Damansara Train Station is overhead, and moving further on to Mont Kiara and Desa Sri Hartamas. Residents can also reach into the city of Kuala Lumpur via the Federal Highway and New Pantai Expressway (NPE, connecting Bangsar and Subang Jaya). Nearby MRT stations are MRT Semantan and Bangsar.

Taman Bandaraya has its own exclusive Bukit Bandaraya Park, literally conveniently located within its own backyard. For a more expansive exercise run, walk, cycling, jungle trekking, many of the residents of Bangsar make the trip to Mont Kiara’s Bukit Kiara Park for the fresh morning air and rolling hills, or Lake Gardens / Perdana Botanical Gardens which is vast in beauty and natural resources, packed into a luxurious 91 acre green lung and lake just outside the Kuala Lumpur outskirts.

Taman Bandaraya is blessed with many shopping options of both retail shops and places to eat, perfect for giving a treat to the family, or entertaining work colleagues and friends lavishly. Just across the road of Jalan Maarof is the Bangsar Shopping Centre. Within are high end shops catering for the upper middle and elite of society, with high dining restaurants like Dome Café, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Chilli’s Grill & Bar, Madam Kwan’s, Grand Imperial Restaurant, La Bodega; For ladies there are shops like A Cut Above, Honeypot, Mita Tam Style Studio, Mothercare, and Thai Odyssey Signature Spa. There are even Japanese restaurants like Kuriya.

For groceries, the residents of Taman Bandaraya can walk down Jalan Ara to shops such as TMC Bangsar, or Village Grocer at Bangsar Village. There’s the Bangsar Baru Night Market, and the Bangsar Sunday Market where patrons may get fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as other items at reasonable prices.

Other than Malay, mamak and Chinese restaurants within the Bangsar area, there are also cafes, bakeries, independent ethnic eateries such as Nasi Kandar Pelita, Restaurant Uncle Rahmat, and Leonardo’s Dining Room and Wine Loft. At night, there is much to do at Bangsar due to the multi -national patrons, pubs, bars and various night life happening.

For other international foods and cafes, residents can make a scenic trip to nearby malls, such as The Curve at Mutiara Damansara, One Utama, and Mid Valley Megamall.

Children’s educational needs will be well taken care of in Taman Bandaraya. Kindergartens number at least nine within this enclave alone. National schools nearby include Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Bandaraya, SMK Bukit Bandaraya, SMK Vivekananda, and SK Bukit Damansara. The nearest universities are HELP University, Asia e University, Management Science University and GlobalNxt University.

Residential properties in Taman Bandaraya are a mix of both freehold and leasehold. As Taman Bandaraya is a very highly sought-after housing location for socialites, and conversion of houses facing the main Jalan Maarof and Jalan Ara for business purposes. So it is no wonder that asking prices for residential landed houses in Taman Bandaraya command from MYR 900 psf and above, and apartments from MYR 380 psf and above.
