Fast cars lovers and owners would surely be happy to know that 51 Gurney is designed for them in mind. With the first car elevator in town, 51 Gurney oozes prestige and inimitability to the selected few who can afford to showcase their Lamborghinis and Ferraris up high in the sky.
Nestles in between low cost flats, Chymes Gurney is definitely bringing fabulosity to a rather ghetto side of Kuala Lumpur. Hoping to change Keramat’s low-key landscape, Chymes Gurney will be introducing a sophisticated architectural design with its 23-storey towers of residential units.

Project Details
Initially named Antara Condominium by Faber Union Sdn Bhd in 2012, the condominium’s name was changed to Chymes Gurney in 2015. This was due to the changes in the name of the developer, now called UEM Edgenta and the hike of the units’ price based on cost production. It does sounds classy though and more appealing to a bigger buyer’s market with the spending power.
But what stands out is the shape of the condominium, which is in the size of an oval. Perhaps there is a need to challenge the norm and making Chymes Gurney more memorable to potential buyers. The oval exterior provides uniquely designed units that include Type B, Type C, Type C1 and Type C1a.
“We just wanted to avoid the clichés. Why be apart of the norm when you can change and be different,” explained Chymes Gurney’s sales rep when questioned on the peculiarity of the building.
Chymes Gurney ranged from 943 sq.ft. to 1,986 sq.ft. and all units are built as single volume unit. There were penthouse units prior to this but they were taken down due to poor feedback from the buyers.
The views are among the main reasons why buyers would attempt to get a unit here. The sales rep insisted that they don’t coin with the idea of KLCC view as some might end up disappointed. That seems quite fair, as the developer wouldn’t want to paint an inaccurate picture of the development.
“We use the term city view. Residents will still be able to look at KLCC, but some might only get a glimpse of one of the towers,” he continued
Chymes Gurney has two main majestic views. The city and the highlands views.
City view is much more on the expensive side in comparison to the highlands. Residents will face a one-sided PETRONAS Twin Towers, AKLEH and Damai LRT Station. Most of these units with city view are located at Tower A. There are ample of units left but the price ranges are higher than Tower B. And plus, all units in Tower A have balconies.
Meanwhile, Tower B will be facing the highlands, this include matured development of Jalan Semarak and Mindef. Residents won’t have to worry of any future developments as the area is deemed as matured with long existing infrastructures. The availability of the units at Tower B are depleting as we speak. The units here are a whole lot cheaper than the ones in Tower A and do keep in mind that these units do not have balconies.
As a tip, please do inform the sales rep to keep you in the loop on any availability at Tower B. There are some scenarios where buyers’ loans do get rejected and this can lead to immediate availability.
And by the way, there are still some marketing woos to get people buying the remaining units. Those who purchase units with city view will receive RM37, 000 voucher from Signature Kitchen while those who are buying units with highland view will receive RM 17, 000 voucher from Signature Kitchen as well.
Security here is also designed to be tight and there is no compromises in safeguarding this high-end residential area. Residents are only able to access the gate entrance of the condominium, own level/unit and the common areas that are located at level 6 and the rooftop.
Meanwhile, each unit will be given two parking spaces while bigger units like Type C, C1 and C1a will receive three parking spaces.
As for potential neighbours at the Chymes Gurney, the Arabs are said to have purchased a lot of units for both investment and family relocation as a mean to escape political instability in their countries.
Type A is the smallest unit from the various ranges here at Chymes Gurney. It has two bedrooms and two baths. With an average of 943 sq. ft., it can be pretty tight as there isn’t any space for a dining area. It is recommended to install a dining island within the kitchen area to fully maximise the limited amount of space. A stand-alone table for four would be tough but is still doable. These units are long but not wide. As predicted, Type As were the first to go due to its cheaper price tag. But if you are still interested, just keep tabs with the sales reps if there are any rejected loans.
Type B1 is among the many units left available. It has a common layout with elongated hallways to project bigger space to the units. The rooms are located adjacent with each other. For buyers who are parents to smaller children, such arrangement seems practical as parents could easily monitor their young ones during the nights.
The master bedroom is spacious and provides ample of space for built in closets. But there isn’t any bathtubs in these units or any other units at Chymes Gurney. All baths have stand in showers. Meanwhile, bedroom 2 is pretty tight in space. It fits a single or sofa bed with a small sized closet. The room can be converted into a maid’s living space, as there is no utility room in this unit.
The kitchen is pretty hidden in this particular layout. It is right at the edge of the unit. Please ensure to enhance the kitchen’s lighting as it can get a bit dark even with the lights on. There is a small yard located outside of the unit. This can be used to place the washing machine and dryer or it can be converted into a wet kitchen.
As mentioned earlier on, only units located at Tower A have balconies and this include Type B1.
Type C1 is among the uniquely designed units that exemplify the overall design of Chymes Gurney. Given its oval shape, the developer hopes that it will have an edge to compare to other developments. The oval layout seems peculiar but different. It might fit perfectly for those who seek for a change in a home’s interior layout.
Upon entering the unit, residents would be able to see the view of the city as intended by the developer.
“That is the main difference to compare to other units from other developments. You don’t just see the rooms or kitchen upon entering the unit. But you will be greeted by the breath-taking view of the city,” said the sales rep.
All rooms are spacious and connected to bathrooms. What is interesting about this layout is that the maid’s room is located outside of the unit, within the yard. It even has its own toilet. This can certainly guarantees privacy for the family and even for the maid.
Location
Chymes Gurney would definitely bring some ghetto fabulosity to this part of Kuala Lumpur! Strategically located within the city centre, Chymes Gurney is surrounded by Kuala Lumpur’s ghetto suburb of Keramat and Persiaran Gurney. There aren’t any high-end condominiums in this area and Chymes Gurney is breaking the barrier by infusing high-end living in a rather ‘kampung’ backdrop.
Many would be surprised to see an upscale pad like Chymes Gurney approved and undergoing rigorous construction. The residential associations here are pretty vocal in voicing out their discontent towards high end condominiums in the past. They firmly believe that these developments would slowly but surely evacuate the lower to mid income families living in the vicinity for the past decades out of Keramat. There were couple of strikes taken place in the past and they were widely covered by the media. Just don’t be surprised to see people with banners and cardboard signs picketing around the neighbourhood in the future.
Among the neighbouring housing areas include Jalan Kent 3, Kampung Padang Tembak and Kampung Datuk Keramat.
The area is also massively populated by mid to low cost condominiums that include Gurney Heights, Lanai Gurney, Arem Court, government quarters of Wisma Pewira Mindef and low cost flats such as Pangsa Murni Titiwangsa Keramat Jaya 2. Most of these buildings are not properly maintained and have high occupancies.
Just a heads up when it comes to this area. This is a Malay majority area. But given the recent years, there is a massive influx of immigrants living at the low cost wooden houses located nearby. Most of the locals tend to rent these houses to a huge number of immigrants for a good sum of money. And most of the smaller businesses nearby are run by, you’d guess it, the immigrants. This may make Chymes Gurney seems out of place given the socioeconomic landscape of the neighbouring residential areas.
As for amenities, there are just too many to be shared in a review! But let’s start with the heart of Keramat!
Pasar Datok Keramat, Keramat’s famous wet market is just around the corner! For those who aspire to be the next Nigella Lawson or Malaysia’s next Masterchef, this market provides ample of selection from poultries to veggies, from spices to herbs! The rows of stall are endless and some might end up buying more than they planned! Pasar Datok Keramat can definitely give Pasar Chow Kit and Pasar Selayang a run for their money when it comes to value and options.
And then there’s the infamous Keramat Mall, located right in front of Damai LRT Station. Keramat Mall is the home to the government’s multi-purpose service centre, Mini Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) Keramat.
The building was made to accommodate the Keramat’s wet market but due to poor responses from the market’s sellers, it was converted to a UTC hub. Just to avoid waste of space and infrastructure!
Among the government bodies that are open for business are Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan Wilayah Persekutuan (JPJ), Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara (JPN) and Jabatan Imigresen. This UTC centre has less volume of people in comparison to the Wangsa Maju’s centre that is often packed with queues pouring right out of the building. Renewing driving licences and passports here will take less than 30 minutes! The Centre also has the affordable medical care clinic, Klinik 1Malaysia and a public library.
Keramat promises a gastronomic adventure with endless of warongs along the roadside. From the best satay in Keramat at Zalimah Satay to ample of Kelantanese delights as well as the famous Titiwangsa Roti John, all operating from evening to late nights. The area is jam packed with great local cuisine that are extremely affordable and worth every single dime.
But if you do not have the stomach for such food, then you can skip them and head on to the restaurants along Jalan Ampang such as Soul’d Out and Victoria’s Station or even to Great Eastern Mall as you could dine while being entertained at Alexis Bistro. Aren’t we posh?
Schools are everywhere. But do bear in mind that the nature of schools here cater to the dominant race living within the area and this include numerous religious schools and kindergartens. For non-religious public schools, there are SK Gurney 1 and 2 located at Jalan Gurney 1 and SK Keramat. Tadika Bijak and Tadika Capitol are among the multiracial kindergartens located nearby.
The development is accessible by AKLEH, DUKE, Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ampang and Jalan Jelatek. Major shopping complexes such as Suria KLCC, Avenue K, Pavillion and Bukit Bintang are merely ten minutes away via driving through these roads.
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Markas Pendidikan dan Latihan TLDM, JUPEM and FELDA are among government agencies located nearby. Chymes Gurney can be appealing to potential buyers who are working with these agencies.
Even those who are working at Intermark, New Hampshire, Tokio Marine and even the PETRONAS Twin Towers would find this area convenient for commuting purposes.
And plus there are three LRT stations within a short driving distance in this area. This include Jelatek LRT Station, Datuk Keramat LRT Station and LRT Damai Station. Walking to these stations is feasible if you could stand walking for 15 minutes regardless rain or shine. There are also RAPID busses stationed at Datuk Keramat LRT Station.
This is also the hub for cabbies as there are a lot of taxi drivers living in Keramat. You will never be short of access to public transportation by living here.

Summary
Either for own living or investment, there are things that need to be considered. For those who don’t mind living in an area that has not reached its fullest potential, this condominium is still on an expensive side especially after being rebranded as Chymes Gurney. The minimum price tag would now be at least RM800, 000 to RM900, 000. Bear in mind, there aren’t other living areas nearby that share the same ‘prestige’ status of Chymes Gurney. Even at the current moment, developers are still having difficulties in selling the bigger units at Tower A due to its hefty price tag. But there are discounts and perks given that include a maximum of 16% discount as well as vouchers from Signature Kitchen. Perhaps these could ease the woes of an expensive condominium in Keramat.
