Balok is located in Kuantan, Pahang near to the famous stretch of beaches. It’s a short distance away from Kemaman, Terengganu.

Balok is known for as a resort town as well as the East Coast Seaport Gateway of Malaysia as well as home to petrochemical processing related industry, which is one of its major economic drivers.

Balok is accessible by road via the East Coast Expressway and Karak Expressway connecting Balok and its surrounding towns to other major towns.  Alternatively, Balok can also be reached by express buses and taxis. The same stretch of beach is also known for the Cherating Turtle Sanctuary where turtle conservation work takes place.  Furthermore, it is also known for its fresh affordable seafood.

Balok offers ample business, investments and job opportunities particularly for those in the tourism, rare earth and petrochemical industries, which makes up its main economic activity. Many international petrochemical companies such as BASF PETRONAS Chemicals, BP Chemicals and Polyplastics Asia Pacific have set up their processing plant at nearby Gebeng industrial area and surrounding Balok. Aside from that, the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park houses mainly China-owned businesses.  Further to that, the cottage industry produces handicrafts, batik and salted fish are also major contributors to its economy. Meanwhile, the timber industry, ice cream and fishing industry also play a major role in the local economy.

Healthcare needs are taken care of by several hospitals and clinics. Residents of Balok seek medical treatment at their local community health centre, Klinik Putramedic Balok and Klinik Pergigian Balok while more serious conditions can be treated at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital Kuantan. In addition, there are also a host of private hospitals such as KPJ Kuantan, Kuantan Medical Centre (KMC) and Darul Makmur Medical Centre.

Since Balok is a resort town, it offers versatile living options much like any other modern cities in Malaysia. Many of the people live in the surburb areas and commute to work in surrounding neighbourhoods. People from all walks of life work and live in Balok.

Available public schools are SK Balok Baru, SK Balok Makmur and SK Pelabuhan whilst some notable residential schools include Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Abdul Rahman Talib (SMART) and Sekolah Berasrama  Penuh Integrasi Kuantan, to name a few. Alternatively,  Kuantan International School, International Islamic School (Kuantan) and Regent International School are a stone’s throw away.

There are many recreational facilities available near to Balok, which includes beautiful beaches along Berserah and Cherating, theme park, nature park and more. The stretch of beaches are popular weekend getaway for both locals and foreigners alike. The Gambang Resort City, one of the largest water theme park resorts in Malaysia,  a short distance away from Balok is a popular family vacation destination. Other recreational activities include the Sungai Pandan Waterfall and Esplanade Park.

There are several supermarkets, convenience stores and mini-markets where residents can head to for daily essentials and groceries like MCKIP Night Market, Kedai Runcit Wadina and MYZ Niaga. Bigger supermarkets like AEON Big and Mydin and shopping malls like Kuantan Parade, Kuantan City Mall and East Coast Mall are a short drive away in Kuantan.
