Sekinchan, a major rice village cum town in Malaysia, is located in Selangor and more obviously, in the state well known for its rice production, Sabak Bernam. With its tranquil small town atmosphere and padi fields that spread as far as the eye can see, it proves a sought after retreat for the city dweller. Its main attractions lie in its natural landscape. The area’s economy lies within it as well, having rice, mango and palm tree plantations. It certainly is staying true to its literal translation of “village suitable for plantation”.
The area also has a variety of birds flying from various places so bird watching is one recreational activity that is prevalent. One of the other main trades of the Sekinchan people is fishing so in turn, the area is also very famous for its seafood. Most cuisine served though, satisfies more of a Chinese palette. More modern amenities can be enjoyed outside the village, in its district’s main town, Sabak.
