Johor is one of the thirteen states in Malaysia located at the southern-most portion of Peninsular Malaysia. The Straits of Johor separates the south of Johor from Singapore. The state capital city and royal city of Johor is Johor Bahru. Formerly known as Tanjung Puteri, the old state capital is Johor Lama.

The Iskandar Development Region and South Johor Economic Region is a major development zone in Johor. High-rise office towers, large shopping complexes and modern shop-office lots are some of the commercial developments in this zone. Residential areas in this zone include Bukit Indah and Horizon Hills townships. The original language spoken by Johoreans is Johor-Riau Malay. Cekak Musang and Teluk Belanga are cultural representations of Johor and can be found in many collar designs for clothing. Other traditional clothing includes Kurung Johor, Kurung Riau and Belah Kebaya Panjang. Zapin and Kuda Kepang are cultural dances of the state. Laksa Johor, Mee Bandung Muar and Nasi Beriani Gam are some of the popular local dishes of Johor.
